The Never-Ending Cigar Cycle We Pretend We Can Quit (But Won’t)
Let’s be honest….there’s a cycle to cigar life. A beautiful, ridiculous, wallet-destroying cycle. You don’t choose it. You just wake up one day, look at your humidor, and realize…you’re already trapped.
Welcome to the Never-Ending Cigar Cycle.
Step 1: Smoking a Cigar
This is where it all starts. You cut. You toast. You take that first draw and immediately think: “Wow… this is perfect.” The burn line is razor sharp. The smoke is thick. The flavors are hitting just right…cream, spice, cocoa, maybe a little leather because you’re classy like that. For the next 90 minutes, life is good. Bills don’t exist. Emails can wait. You tell yourself: “I’m good. I don’t need anything else.”
LIES. All of them.
Step 2: Thinking About Cigars
Somewhere around the halfway point, your brain betrays you. You’re still smoking…but now you’re thinking.
- “I wonder how this will age.”
- “I should’ve bought more of these.”
- “Did that new limited release drop yet?”
Next thing you know, you’re Googling cigars while actively smoking one. You’re scrolling reviews. Watching unboxings. Texting your buddy: “Have you tried that new release yet?” Your cigar is still burning, but mentally you’re already in the next humidor.
Step 3: Buying More Cigars
This part happens fast. Too fast. You justify it instantly:
- “It’s a limited release.”
- “I’ll smoke them over time.”
- “I’m just filling gaps in the humidor.”
Next thing you know:
- Cart = full
- Credit card = sweating
- Shipping confirmation = received
And let’s be clear this doesn’t only happen during normal, responsible adult hours. This also happens at 2:17am when you can’t sleep and you tell yourself ” I’m just going to look”, the room is dark, your phone brightness is on minimum, and your willpower is completely gone. One minute you’re tossing and turning and the next minute you’re deep in a retailer’s site whispering: “Well… shipping is free.” You feel a brief moment of guilt…followed immediately by excitement because deep down, you know what’s coming. “Guilty as charged”
Step 4: Smoke & Repeat
The package arrives. You open it like it’s Christmas morning. You smell the cigars and organize them perfectly in the humidor. You step back and admire your poor financial decisions, then you light one up. And just like that…You’re back at Step 1
The Truth No One Wants to Admit
Cigar smokers don’t chase the perfect cigar. We chase the next one. The next blend. The next release. The next box we swear we’re “just going to sit on.” And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.
